The little number and letter at the end of your tyre size — like 91V — are not decoration. They tell you how much weight and speed the tyre is built for.
The number (e.g. 91) maps to a maximum weight per tyre — 91 means 615 kg. Fitting a tyre with a lower load index than your car specifies is dangerous, especially when loaded for an upcountry trip. This matters most on vans, pickups and matatus.
The letter is the maximum sustained speed. Common ratings: T (190 km/h), H (210 km/h), V (240 km/h). Always match or exceed your car's original rating.
For a HiAce, TownAce or any load-carrying vehicle, you need reinforced or 'C' (commercial) tyres with a high load rating. Fitting cheap passenger tyres to a loaded van is a blowout waiting to happen — and fails NTSA inspection. We'll always fit the correct rating for what you carry.
